Environmental Quality

Through its community and regional planning programs, GNRC brings together elected community and business leaders, industry professionals, and citizens to tackle issues and challenges related to environmental quality in Middle Tennessee.

Emissions Reduction Planning

GNRC was awarded $1 million to lead planning activities and community engagement efforts for the EPA's  Climate Pollution Reduction Grant Program (CPRG) for the Nashville-Davidson-Murfreesboro-Franklin Metropolitan Statistical Area. GNRC’s regional efforts will be coordinated with the State of Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation's statewide activities to develop an emissions reduction plan called the Tennessee Volunteer Emission Reduction Strategy (TVERS).

Solid Waste Planning

GNRC facilitates regional master planning for solid waste across Middle Tennessee. At the local level, the agency provides technical assistance to its member communities with funding made available through the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation Materials Management Division. The technical assistance helps ensure compliance with the State’s annual twenty‐five percent waste reduction required by the Solid Waste Management Act.
