Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers play a vital role in many of the programs and services available throughout the organization. Below are a few of the volunteer opportunities available:

Organization-wide Volunteer Opportunities:

Administrative Volunteers: Assist with office tasks such as copying, filing, data entry, and making phone calls.

Special Event Volunteers: Help with event set-up/ take down, and registration at special events.

Communication Volunteers: Help with content and design of marketing material, e-newsletter, and social media.

Brand Ambassadors: Represent GNRC at community fairs and events.

Community Development Volunteer Opportunities:

Housing Grant Volunteers: GNRC connects low-income older adults who own their home with grant money to make repairs and accessibility upgrades. Volunteers assist the housing coordinator with collecting photos of residences to include in grant applications.

Client & Service Assistance Volunteer Opportunities:

Volunteers make a real difference in the lives of seniors, providing both concrete assistance and vital contact, overcoming the isolation and depression often present in older adults.

Senior Outreach: Support and encourage seniors who spend most of their time alone by calling to check up on them. Friendly conversation, listening to their concerns, sharing stories, and offering encouragement help seniors stay positive.

Service Assistance Volunteers: GNRC serves as a one-stop shop for older adults to be connected to services across the region. Call clients to ensure that they were able to access the services referred during screening calls.

Guardianship Program Volunteers: The guardianship program provides conservatorship to Tennesseans over the age of 60 years who are unable to manage their own affairs. Volunteers visit with an assigned client twice a month with the goal to build a relationship of trust with this client, so that the client feels comfortable to voice any problems or concerns. Volunteers may read to clients, provide company, and observe living and health conditions.

Medicare Counseling Program (SHIP) Volunteer Opportunities:

Assist Medicare beneficiaries and their families in navigating their way through Medicare and associated insurances through the Tennessee State Health Insurance Assistance Program (TN SHIP). Help clients feel confident about their health insurance decisions and help them save money on their prescription medications. Counseling is free and unbiased for all who need assistance.

Medicare Counselors: Counsel clients one-on-one, provide education on scams and help prevent Medicare fraud by working with the Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP).

Outreach / Event Volunteers: Attend fairs, recruit volunteers, distribute marketing materials to promote awareness of the SHIP program.

Administrative Volunteers: Assist SHIP program staff with office tasks such as copying, filing, data entry, and phone calls.

Communication Volunteers: Help with content and design of marketing material, e-newsletter, and social media.
